Indian Astrology is based on Sidereal Zodiac, has Nava Graha and uses Mahadasha/Antardasha System of timing by casting Vedic Horoscope. Also known as Jyotish, Indian astrology has three major branches; Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora. There are two principal systems of horoscope interpretation in Indian Astrology; Parashari and Jaimini. Both are equally powerful though Parashari is the one that is widely used.

There are large number of Planetary combinations or Jyotish Yogas including Raj yogas and Arishta yogas. There is an elaborate system of measuring the strength or shadbalas of yoga karaka planets. There are many amsa charts (or Divisional Charts) like Navamsa, Dasamsa, Dwadasamsa besides lagna chart that are utilized to judge and predict various aspects of life.

There are numerous Mahadasha/Antardasha systems to time life events, the most common ones being Vimsottari dasha,Kalachakra dasha, Yogini dasha, Jaimini dasha and Chara Dasha. To predict yearly events, Tajaka and Varshaphal (solar return) are analyzed. Ashtakavarga and Gochara (Transit) is used to further narrow down the timing of events.

There are upagrahas like Dhooma, Vyatipata, Mandi, Yama Ghantaka to analyze further malefic/benefic effects. Effect of Nakshatra is analyzed in great depth in addition to astrological signs. Then there is Muhurta (Electional Astrology) and Prashna (Horary astrology) to handle practically all astrological queries.

Most of the classical Indian astrological literature is easily available on the Internet to those who are interested. With Internet, one can access an astrologer twenty-four hours, seven days a week. The cost of astrological services has been reduced to affordable rates, thus making this once esoteric knowledge accessible to all.
